Steve Lacy

In 1960 Steve Lacy played four sets every night for sixteen weeks with the Thelonious Monk Quintet at the Jazz Gallery in New York City. In 1963 he was part of the big band assembled by Monk which played at New York City's Philharmonic Hall. Allegedly, it was after hearing Lacy playing, that John Coltrane decided to use the soprano.
