Ayers Kevin
Kevin Ayers was born in the UK on the 16th August 1944 in Herne Bay, Kent.
The Wilde Flowers (the 'e' is a tribute to Oscar) were formed in June 1963.
The first incarnation of the band was composed of Wyatt on drums, Hugh Hopper on bass,
elder brother Brian on guitar and saxophone, Richard Sinclair on rhythm guitar and Kevin Ayers, on vocals.
In 1965 Ayers left England to travel to Ibiza. He met a millionaire, who believed in his talent and gave him money
to start a band.
Back to England, The Soft Machine was born in 1966 and even signed by Polydor in January 1967.
The first album was recorded in New York and produced by Tom Wilson of The Velvet Underground.
Then Kevin Ayers follows both a band and a solo career. He will then join the bands The Whole World and Gong,
but only for a while.
He signed with the smaller label Island (Nico, Eno, John Cale). He was unhappy with it, so he signed with Harvest.
After such a long and chaotic career, Kevin Ayers is still on the road, and busier than ever.
With an acoustic duo (with guitarists Kevin Armstrong or Marvin Siau) or solo, Kevin has performed in Japan, the States and throughout Europe.
The pictures shown in this gallery were taken in Brussels in April 2001.
